Score your website, free

Type your web address. In about fifteen seconds you get a score out of 100 for four things that affect whether a visitor gets in touch: being found, working on a phone, staying secure, and being easy to get in touch with. The top three fixes are on the screen. The full report, every check and why it matters, comes by email if you want it.

It reads your site the way a search engine first receives it, from this site’s own server. It does not log in, change anything, or send your address to anybody else.

What it checks

Four things, weighted by what they cost you

A score is only useful if you can see how it is made. Each check is weighted by how much it matters to a small business getting work, so a site that cannot be found counts for more than a missing sharing image.

Found on search

Whether search engines are allowed to list the page, and whether it gives them a clear title, description, heading and sitemap to work from.

Works on a phone and loads fast

Whether the page is set up for a phone screen, how quickly the server answers, and how heavy the page is to download on a phone signal.

Safe and in working order

Whether the page loads without an error, is secure with a current certificate, and whether its links go somewhere.

Easy to get in touch

Whether a visitor who has decided can ring, email or send a message from the page, whether it asks them to, and whether it shows a privacy policy and your ABN.

A few faults cap the score. A page that is not set up for phones, is not secure, cannot be found, or offers no way to get in touch is held below the line however well the rest is done, because nothing else makes up for those. The result says which fault is holding it.

What it cannot see. It reads the page as it is sent, before anything runs in a browser, so it does not measure what a full browser test measures, and anything your site adds with script afterwards can be invisible to it. A check it could not measure is left out of the score rather than counted for or against you, and the report says how many there were.
