Is your Google Business Profile working for you?

For a local business the profile is often the first thing a customer sees, before the website. Open yours in another tab, answer twelve questions, and see what to fix first. It works in your browser and sends nothing unless you ask for the tips.

  1. You are the primary owner of the profile, under your own Google account
  2. The profile is verified
  3. The business name is exactly your real business name, with no extra keywords or suburbs added
  4. The primary category is the closest match to what you actually do
  5. Your opening hours are right, including public holidays
  6. The phone number rings somewhere that gets answered
  7. The website link goes to a working page on your own site
  8. Your address or service area is set correctly
  9. There is a description that says what you do and where
  10. You have added real photos of your work or premises in the last three months
  11. You reply to reviews, good and bad
  12. You ask every customer for a review, without offering anything in return

The questions follow the guidelines Google publishes for business profiles. How Google decides what to show is Google’s decision, and no checklist changes that; what it does is stop a customer giving up on the profile.
