Accessibility
Last updated 11 September 2026. This page says what has been done and what has not, because an accessibility statement that only lists intentions is not worth publishing.
What was done
This site targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The following are built in and checked as part of the build rather than assumed:
- Every colour pair in the design system is checked against the AA contrast thresholds by a script that reads the actual stylesheet. If a colour is changed and a pair drops below the threshold, the build fails.
- Semantic HTML with a single main landmark, a real heading order and no heading level skipped for visual effect.
- A skip link to the main content, visible on focus.
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element, with the outline never removed.
- The whole site is operable by keyboard, including the menu and the scope check.
- Form fields have real labels, and the required ones are marked in text as well as by symbol.
- Data tables have header cells with scope, and a caption for screen reader users.
- Text reflows at 390 pixels wide with no horizontal scrolling, and wide tables scroll inside their own container rather than moving the page.
- Motion respects the reduced-motion setting.
- It works in light and dark, following your system setting.
What has not been done
- It has not been tested by people who use screen readers or other assistive technology daily. Automated checks and a careful build are not the same thing as that, and pretending otherwise is how inaccessible sites get accessibility badges.
- No formal conformance audit has been commissioned, so this page claims a target and a method, not certification.
On client sites
Every build includes accessibility checks on the delivered pages, with the result written into the release record. A build is never described as WCAG compliant on the strength of those checks alone. Where a sector or a risk warrants a formal audit, that is scoped and quoted as its own piece of work.
