Book a time

15 minutes, and you will know whether this is worth doing

15 minutes is enough to work out whether there is a job here, which product fits it, and roughly what it costs. It is not enough to design anything, and nobody will try to.

No charge, and no pitch at the end of it. Google meet, or a phone call if you would rather not be on camera.

Before the call

What to have in front of you

None of it is compulsory. Each one turns a vague 15 minutes into a useful one.

  • Your estimate reference, if you ran the estimator. It saves us ten minutes because the answers are already on the record.
  • Your domain name, if you already own one, or the name you want if you do not.
  • What you sell, who buys it, and what you want the website to make happen.
  • Anything already running that the site has to work with: a booking system, a point of sale, a mailing list.

If you have not run the estimator yet, it takes about two minutes and it means the call starts from a number rather than from nothing.

After the call

What you leave with

Four things, and one of them is the option to walk away.

  • Which of the six products fits, said out loud, including when the answer is the cheapest one.
  • A realistic range, and the specific thing in your answers that would move it either way.
  • Whether a paid Scope Sprint is worth doing, or whether the job is straightforward enough to quote without one.
  • An honest no, and who to ring instead, if I am the wrong person for it.

What you will not leave with is a written scope or a fixed price. That is the Scope and Architecture Sprint, it costs $395 plus GST, and it comes off the build if you go ahead. This call is where we work out whether you need one.

Where the booking happens

The booking page is Google's, and this page is not

The booking page itself is run by Google Calendar, so pressing the button takes you off this site and onto theirs, where their terms and their privacy policy apply. Nothing is embedded here: the booking page is a link you press rather than a window inside this one, so nothing about your visit reaches Google's booking service until you decide to go. The one thing this site does load from Google is analytics, set so that no cookie is written, and the privacy policy sets out exactly what it receives and how to stop it. What you type into the booking form goes to my calendar and my inbox, and the privacy policy says what happens to it after that.

Paid sessions are recorded so your written scope can be produced from what was actually said rather than from my memory of it. Google Meet tells everybody in the call when a recording starts, I will ask you first, and you can say no. The free 15 minutes is not recorded.

Nothing on this site is embedded from anybody: no fonts from a font service, no video player, no chat widget, and no booking window. That is a rule rather than a preference, and it is why the booking page is a link you press rather than a window inside this one, so that nothing about your visit here reaches anybody until you decide to go. One thing does load from elsewhere, and it is named rather than glossed: Google Analytics, set so that no cookie is written and nothing is stored in your browser. The privacy policy says exactly what it receives, what it cannot do, and how to stop it.

Questions

What people ask before booking

Is it really free, or is it a sales call?

It is free and it is not a sales call. I get paid for building websites, not for talking about them, so 15 minutes that ends in me saying you do not need one is a good outcome for both of us. The paid conversation is the Scope Sprint at $395 plus GST, and it exists precisely so the free one does not have to pretend to be it.

Do I have to be on camera?

No. The booking page offers a Google Meet link because that is what most people want, and you are welcome to ring the number instead or turn your camera off when you join. Nothing about the call needs a picture of either of us.

What if none of the times suit?

Ring the number or send the enquiry form and say when you are free. The booking page shows the hours I keep open for it; it is not the only time I work.

Will you quote on the call?

You will get a range and the specific answer that would move it, said out loud. A fixed price exists only in a written proposal with a version number and an expiry date on it, and that comes out of the Scope Sprint rather than out of 15 minutes.

What happens to what I type into the booking form?

It goes to my calendar and my inbox. The booking page is Google's, so their terms apply to it, and nothing about your visit to this site is sent to them. It is not sold, and you are not added to a mailing list.

Can I just email instead?

Yes. The address is on the contact page and it reaches the same person. A call is faster for anything with an unknown in it, because three rounds of email is usually one conversation pretending to be four.
