After launch

Care plans, and the honest limits on them

Support is a named product with a written allowance, not a line hidden inside the word hosting. Every plan is optional, month to month after the initial period, and cancellable in writing.

You do not need one. A static site with no server and no database keeps serving whether or not anyone is looking after it. A care plan buys attention, a change allowance and someone who already knows the build, not uptime.

Growth Operations

An acknowledgement target is a promise to respond, not a promise to resolve. None of these plans is a vendor uptime service level or continuous security monitoring, and I will not sell them as one.

Being found

Submitted, verified, and then actually watched

The most common thing I find on a site somebody else built is that it was never submitted to a search engine at all. Not ranked badly. Not present. Nobody had lodged a sitemap, nobody had verified the domain, and nobody had ever opened the one free tool that would have said so.

It takes about ten minutes at launch and it is in the price of every build, including the $495 plus GST one. It is in the price because leaving it out is not a saving, it is a site nobody can find, and I would rather not send one of those into the world with my name on it.

On every build, at launch, included in the price

  • The domain verified in Google Search Console, in an account in your name, not mine
  • A sitemap generated at build time from the pages that actually exist, and lodged
  • Indexing confirmed rather than assumed: I open the tool and check your pages are in the index before I call the job finished
  • Titles and descriptions written for every page, and structured data generated from the visible content so the two cannot disagree
  • A robots file that permits what should be crawled and excludes what should not

On a care plan, every month, if you give me read access

  • Whether the site is still indexed, still being crawled, and whether anything new is being excluded
  • What people actually typed to find you, which is usually not what anybody guessed
  • Which pages are doing the work and which are doing none
  • Anything broken that a visitor would not see: a page dropped from the index, a redirect gone wrong, a certificate about to lapse
  • One page of plain language, with the specific changes I would make and why

What it needs from you

This needs read access to your own Search Console property and, if you use one, your analytics account. You set both up in your name and add me as a user, which takes about four minutes and is written out step by step in the access guide. I can be removed the same way, in one press, and the history stays with you because the account was always yours.

The step by step is in the access guide.

And what a report is not

A report is a measurement, not a lever. It tells you what happened and what I would change; whether a search engine then sends more people is its decision and nobody selling you a website can promise otherwise. What I will not do is send you a forty page automated PDF nobody reads, or a score out of a hundred that means nothing.

If you already have a site somebody else built, ask me to check this one thing. Send me the address and I will tell you whether it is in the index at all, for nothing and with no obligation. It is a two minute check and the answer is more often no than you would expect.

Changes

Published rates for work outside a plan

There is no negotiation and no surprise. These are the rates. The control beside each one exists so you are never billed for something you did not ask for, and every figure is before GST.

Change categories, rates and the control applied to each
Kind of workRateControl
Straightforward approved content changeCare allowance, or $165 per hour plus GST with a one-hour minimumOne written brief, with facts, assets and approval confirmed before work starts
New page on an existing layoutfrom $495 plus GST where you supply approved copy and assetsContent, layout fit and search metadata confirmed in a signed mini-scope
New custom layout or component$195 per hour plus GST after a written estimateDesign, responsive testing, accessibility and release quoted together, not piecemeal
Complex integration, migration or store remediation$195 per hour plus GST after paid discoveryNo fixed quote without API access, documentation and a test environment
Urgent work that interrupts planned delivery$250 per hour plus GST after written approvalThe actual urgency is defined, along with the minimum charge and the expected response
New article or case studyFixed output scope after an interview, or $165 per hour plus GSTContent is an approved deliverable, never a promised search result

Third-party costs stay yours and stay visible: your domain, your email plan, your hosting if you outgrow the free tier, and any tool you choose to add. None of it is marked up and none of it is bundled into a monthly figure where you cannot see it.

Leaving

How you cancel

In writing, with 30 days’ notice, after the initial period. There is no exit fee, no data to release and no account to hand back, because you already hold all of it.

What you keep: the site, the repository, the hosting, the domain, the analytics history, the training recording and the written handover. What stops: my attention and the change allowance.

A care plan that is hard to leave is a plan that has stopped competing on merit.

Why cancelling takes one email

If you ever do cancel, I would rather know why.

A plan is chosen at handover, not at the start, when you can see what the site actually needs. What you own either way.
